Good sober support

I had worked at EastHaven for about 2 years and absolutely loved it. It was my first job getting into the substance abuse field and really enjoyed it. EastHaven is a special and unique program in my opinion that helps adult men with addiction ease into independence. It's a great program for transitioning as the men learn how to build a healthy, daily routine, do their own grocery shopping, prepare their own meals, and keep their living environment clean and tidy. The men have programming throughout the week and are required to work or volunteer outside of their treatment programming. The men also meet individually with their counselors weekly and also with a paraprofessional once a week for about 6 weeks to help ease them into the program, gain resources, and added support. Overall, the team I worked with was great and knowledgeable. Everyone worked well as a team and really supported one another. The energy at EastHaven is more casual and comfortable, however remains professional and client-centered. I really liked that aspect as I felt the clients felt more comfortable and that it seemed more like their temporary home with extra resources and support as they gain their independence and transition back into the community.

I had such a great experience here. So many seeds were planted. The staff was amazing! Today I am over 8 years sober and working as a substance abuse counselor. Thank you East Haven!

Awsome place they'll do whatever they can to provide anything a person needs, they are very good at keeping the community safe and have no problem weeding the ones who use on the property, it is a drug and alcohol free place. And they are very direct about this.

East Haven saved my life. Initially I did not want to go there, but I followed the recommendation from my counselor from New Beginnings, another amazing place. This is a low level halfway house and they give you immense freedom. You can work from the 2nd day you walk in the door and you can work overnight hours if you so desire. I could not find another HH that allowed that. The staff absolutely bend over backwards to accommodate you and they actually care about you. This is not a place that is there just to take your money and offer you the least possible to meet a state minimum. They provide you $50 a week for groceries. You live in your own apartment with two other guys. Laundry is right there for you. They have a large very nice group room and lounge. This is real life. They are preparing you to go back out into the real world and move on from the treatment world. It is across the street from the bus that will get you anywhere in St. Cloud. You can get a month bus pass for free though the program. The programing is fantastic and minimal. You have about 10 hours a week at most and the counselors put a lot of thought into what they do with the groups and they make it fun. We laughed a ton and learned a lot. The techs that work there do not make much for money, but work as hard as a CEO of a company because they have the passion for helping those of us in recovery out to see us succeed. Those that I watched failed the program were those that were not willing or ready to get sober. Those that were simply there under a court order, or those that as we say in AA, "the only thing that you have to change is everything" and were unwilling to do so. They still hung out with their using friends or sat around in their apartments and came up with excuses constantly for why they could not get a job, which there are thousands of in St. Cloud, and did not go to meetings. Speaking of... The St. Cloud Alano Club is a quick 10 minute walk from East Haven and offers 33 meetings a week! It was an amazing experience. I went to a minimum of one meeting a day for the first 8 weeks I was there and had a sponsor. The men and women of the St. Cloud Alano Club know about us in East Haven and bend over backwards to help those of us who are serious about recovery. The #1 key to recovery is to get involved. There are also tons of NA meetings around the area and a few CA and Smart Recovery meetings as well. If you want to move on to the next stage of your recovery post treatment or institution, and are serious about recovery, there is no better place than East Haven. I am 9 months sober now and the foundation that I built through East Haven and working my butt off in AA is what got me here. I cannot possibly recommend East Haven enough. Just like everything in life, you will get out of it what you put into it. The harder you work, they harder East Haven will work for you. Don't deny yourself the best opportunity out there to have a solid base to build a sober life on. Thank you once again East Haven for saving my life. Edit: To the 4 year old comment about there being vomit, and feces in the food, that is a lie, they do not serve food there. You make your own food in your own apartment. And it is the cleanest place I've been too. Every month a deep clean is done in each individual's apartment that is done with a "white glove" inspection. You are responsible for keeping your own apartment clean. This is likely a disgruntled past client as this is simply not true. They also have a zero tolerance policy, there is absolutely no possible way there were vodka bottles everywhere. You take random urine and breathalyzer tests up to 3 times a week and if you fail once, you are gone. This is simply not possible. There can be a higher turnover rate because people cannot follow the program and think that it is still not treatment and to that I say well done East Haven. This is still treatment, it is not a flop house, you are in treatment and if you cannot follow the program, and so little is asked of you, then you should not be allowed to stay in it.

East Haven is a good place to be when transitioning back into everyday living. The negative reviews on here are very far from the truth.
